Portland Trail Blazers expected to have "serious conversations" regarding their future with franchise star
Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers (32-43) are 13th in the Western Conference standings with a shot at securing a spot in the Play-In Tournament looking unlikely.
Due to this, the Trail Blazers have shut down the 7x All-Star with only 7 games remaining in the regular season. Damian Lillard said this on the matter:
"We’ve pretty much fallen out of the race for the 10th spot, unless we got out there and win every game. I just love to play, I love the competition and I haven’t been ready to give that up. But it does come a point in time when do you stop putting your competitive nature out front"
In a FanDuel TV segment with Shams Charania from The Athletic, he said this on the possible scenario of the Portland Trail Blazers parting ways with Damian Lillard. Charania said:
"You now have to wonder if Lillard ever steps on the court again for Portland. I expect there to be serious conversations about what's next for both sides"
After a strong start to the season, the expectation set by Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers was a deep playoff run with the All-Star point guard leading the way.
But with a disappointing season at hand, along with the organization in possession of a lottery-protected first-round pick, the possibility of Lillard being moved is a strong possibility to be explored.
