"Pretty damn good": Kendrick Perkins hides hubris as Kenan Thompson's hilarious impression goes viral
Former NBA player-turned-analyst Kendrick Perkins reacted to a parody about him, showing an uncommon reaction to Kenan Thompson impersonating him.
During a 2023 Saturday Night Live sketch, the comedian parodied Perkins, imitating his voice and using the same analogies Perk uses on a regular basis on ESPN's First Take.
"Stephen A., with all due respect, Steph Curry is the worst player to ever play the game of basketball. I mean, sure, he scored 32 last game, but my man Luka got a 40-piece and then he pulled out eight biscuits and threw in some extra sauces. Your man Steph is too short, the boy needs a ladder to comb his own hair," Thompson said while parodying the former NBA champion.
The former Boston Celtics center apparently saw the sketch for the first time today and reacted to the same with a five-word message of approval.
"This actually pretty damn good lol," Perkins wrote.
Even though some of his takes rub people the wrong way, Kendrick Perkins has established himself in the media. He has made a smooth transition from being a basketball player to watching the game from afar.
Some of his appearances on First Take, NBA Today and NBA Countdown have gone viral, giving more exposure to the former center.
The reaction to this video is rather surprising, as Perkins isn't always open to seeing people talking about him, let alone mocking him. This time, he's embracing the parody, as Kenan Thompson nailed the impersonation.
Kendrick Perkins calls out Chicago Bulls front office over Zach LaVine report
Before enjoying the Kenan Thompson parody, Kendrick Perkins was calling out the Chicago Bulls after a report on Zach LaVine's behavior within the team surged. Speaking on NBA on ESPN, the retired center minced no words about the Bulls.
"No accountability for the [Bulls] front office and the organization and you're going to put all of this blame on Zach LaVine? I just want to know who that source is. I mean, what has the Bulls front office done lately? Did they win in free agency? No.
"Did they win with draft picks? No. Like Billy Donovan got a contract extension. What has he done? I mean, Zach LaVine in a Bulls uniform has been a 2x All-Star, an Olympics gold medalist. Well damn, no accountability for the front office."
The 2008 NBA champion disapproved of comments made by an anonymous source criticizing LaVine's approach to winning. Perkins had a strong rebuttal to that by asking if the team made the right choices to compete in the 2024 NBA offseason.
