Proud parents Gilbert Arenas and Laura Govan beam as son Alijah grabs Palmetto Road MVP
Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas and his ex, Laura Govan, celebrated their son, Alijah, for winning Underclass MVP. Arenas' son is gradually following in his footsteps as he's started to make a name for himself in the country as one of the top young prospects. He's shown growth on the court and winning the MVP award is proof of his hard work.
The younger Arenas is a consensus top-five player for the 2026 class. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, the young prospect is number four overall in his class. Last year, he was ranked third overall. Fortunately, he maintained his number one overall spot as the shooting guard.
The young prospect showed off at the Adidas 3SSB Palmetto Road where he put up 21.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists to win the Underclass MVP award. Both his parents celebrated his achievement on social media.
The younger Arenas has shown that he can take over any game. At 6-foot-6, he has the size to go against any defender and showcase his athleticism.

Gilbert Arenas was an inspiration to a one-time All-Star
Gilbert Arenas had one of the best runs an NBA star could get in his career. While he was with the Washington Wizards, the star guard was at the top of his game and was even selected to three All-Star games. Because of this, many stars that came after him saw him as an inspiration.
One of the players who looked up to him was recently retired guard Jeff Teague. Teague had a solid NBA run and appeared in one All-Star game while he was with the Atlanta Hawks. In his prime, he wore the No. 0 jersey, later saying he chose to wear the number because of Arenas.
The former star guard had the opportunity to tell Arenas about it when he appeared on the recent episode of Gil's Arena.
"Gil was my favorite player. I ain't saying it because he's here, but that was my favorite player," Teague said. "I wore zero because of Gil. When I first started putting my eyes on the NBA, my homeboy showed me Gil and Baron Davis. The way he was going by people and just jumping into them, getting fouls and stuff.
"When I got to Wake Forest, I was like, 'I'm doing that.' After that, I'd just try to be like Gil. I try to follow his game."
Teague also shared that he met Arenas before the former Wizards star called it quits in the league. After the former was suspended, that was the moment when the 2021 champion got to play against him. However, Agent Zero changed his number to nine at that time, which threw him off.
