Quincy Olivari fires back at Bronny James' naysayers for 'unfair' criticism: "Show the world that he can play"

Quincy Olivari and Bronny James made their G League debuts for the South Bay Lakers on Saturday against the Salt Lake City Stars. Right after tip-off, Olivari found James with a cross-court pass, allowing LeBron James’ son to score his first basket.

Bronny finished with six points, three rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block in the Lakers’ 110-96 win. James went 2-for-9 from the field, including 0-for-4 from deep. Olivari had a team-high 28 points on 8-for-19 shooting, along with 10 rebounds.

After the game, Quincy Olivari had this to say about his fellow rookie’s performance:

“I was just happy to see Bronny get out there and show the world that he can play. I’m a big advocate on pushing that he’s a great player and the criticism he gets is unfair.”

Bronny James has faced a lot of criticism after struggling in the summer league, preseason and regular season. Some people believe that, as a second-round pick, he deserves more patience, while others point out that undrafted players like Olivari have outplayed him.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis watched the Lakers-Stars game to support Bronny James and Quincy Olivari

The LA Lakers started a three-game home stand with a 116-106 win on Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers. LeBron James and Anthony Davis aren't scheduled to play again until Sunday, so they took time to support the South Bay Lakers and watch Bronny James' G League debut. They also cheered on Quincy Olivari, Armel Traore and Christian Koloko.

Of the four, only the younger James and Koloko have made their debuts in the NBA. Traore and Olivari played in the preseason but have not suited up for the Lakers in the regular season. Bronny has a regular contract while the three are on two-way deals with the Lakers.

Savannah James, wife of the four-time MVP LeBron, also attended the game. Bronny's younger sister, Zhuri, and grandmother, Gloria, were also present.
