"Quincy Olivari getting NBA contract soon"- NBA fans react to former Pelicans guard joining Bronny James in G League
NBA fans were thrilled on Friday when it was reported that former Pelicans guard Devonte' Graham has signed with the South Bay Lakers. The G League team, which has been Bronny James' home as of late, added a former Most Improved Player candidate.
The Lakers announced on Friday that Graham has joined the South Bay Lakers. The Portland Trail Blazers waived him on Oct. 17, and the six-year guard has been without a team ever since.
Fans were ecstatic about the announcement, as it signified the seasoned guard's addition to a youthful South Bay squad. Supporters were equally excited about Quincy Olivari’s possible promotion to the main NBA roster.
"Quincy getting a nba contract soon" one fan wrote.
Many others welcomed Graham to LA:
"W signing by South Bay. Devontae used to be a great role player. Should've won MIP that one year," a fan commented.
"What a good pick up," another wrote.
"Devonte' Graham welcome to the lakers," commented a third.
A few Lakers fans were also in the comments, joking that their G League team was making more moves than the NBA team:
" Our g league affiliate making more moves than the Lakers," joked a fan.
"Our G league team does more then the real team lol," wrote another.
Adding Graham provides the Lakers with options. With the team needing a boost amid its struggles, it could promote two-way player Quincy Olivari or add the six-year guard to the lineup.
Quincy Olivari comes out in defense of Bronny James
South Bay Lakers guard Quincy Olivari defended his teammate Bronny James after their win against the San Diego Clippers on Dec. 7. The Atlanta native believed that Bronny had received unfair criticism and revealed that he would always support him.
The duo started the game against San Diego and operated as their team's guards. While the two players were on the court for 21 minutes each, Olivari scored only 6 points, while James scored 16 points, his highest home total in the G League.
After the game, Olivari expressed his support for James:
"I think I'm a big advocate on pushing that he's a great basketball player, and that the criticism he gets is unfair."
In the very next game against the Valley Suns, Bronny shut out all the noise himself, dropping 30 points in his team's 106-100 loss.
