Rapper Cam'ron lashes out after Ben Simmons' disasterclass: "Go f*ck with the Kardashians, the Jenners, whoever the f*ck you with"
Ben Simmons' poor outing on Thursday in Brooklyn's 129-125 overtime loss to the Dallas Mavericks sparked heavy criticism from rapper Cam'ron, who joined the bandwagon criticizing the former All-Star.
On his Instagram, Cam'ron stated:
"Look I'm going to be real brief. Ben Simmons, stop wasting my ni**as time. Stop playing.
"If you don't want to f*cking play basketball, go to f*ck with the Kardashians, the Jenners, whoever the f*ck you with. I went to the game last night and I watched you shoot a airball layup."
He continued:
"KD, Kyrie, I know you may not approve, this ain't on them, this is on me. If you don't want to play basketball, go do what the f*ck you want to do. That s**t got me mad, I could suit up and get two points and six fouls."
In Brooklyn's game against the Dallas Mavericks, Simmons logged seven points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, shooting 3 for 7 from the field.
Despite the poor outing, Simmons was one of four people to have a positive box plus-minus score, with +1. He also had four personal fouls.
Ben Simmons' defense should be a work in progress for his own sake, but scoring has never been his motif
Prior to Ben Simmons' return, Steve Nash said that the Nets do not need Simmons to be a knockdown shooter or an offensive threat.
Criticisms on why Simmons is not posting up are pointless given that he had back surgery only months ago, and why he can't get into an offensive rhythm is just as futile considering how nascent this Brooklyn Nets team is.
The duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have been potent offensively, but even if Simmons gets back to being a 15/9/8 per night player, if every other player in their starting lineup gets blown by on a nightly basis, there isn't much Ben Simmons can do.
Simmons entirely deserves criticism for not finishing around the rim at over above 55%, and being hesitant to get fouled, if that really is the case. Asking Simmons to retain his defensive chops after not playing for a year is ridiculous.
Defense takes a lot more than just getting low and keeping the ball in front of you.
There could be a number of reasons as to why Simmons has been lacking defensively. Good defenders study players' moves, their counters, and counters to their counters over a significant period of time.
Judging Simmons' performance on the basis of five games on a brand new roster with a new coach and brand new schemes, the brouhaha seems a bit overblown.
However, this leash isn't too long. If, say, the team doesn't turn things around by Christmas (at least according to Charles Barkley), Ben Simmons really cannot and, moreover, should not, escape the blame.
Brooklyn's schedule gets significantly easier over the next few weeks, something they will look to capitalize on. They host the Indiana Pacers (2-4) on Saturday night at 7:30 PM ET.
