Reed Sheppard stats tonight: How did Rockets rookie fare in matchup against fellow Wildcat Rob Dillingham? (Nov. 26)
Reed Sheppard and the Houston Rockets visited the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday for an NBA Cup game. It was a relatively emotional outing for Sheppard, who went up against his old backcourt running mate, Rob Dillingham. The former Kentucky Wildcats got to match up against each other for the first time in the NBA.
Sheppard had another tough night with a few minutes on offer. He played 5:08 minutes in the first half, scoring zero points, one rebound, one assist, and a turnover. Sheppard also committed two personal fouls. He missed two shots from the floor, including one from 3-point land. Sheppard was a +/- -5 despite the Rockets leading 57-47 at halftime.
His minutes were trimmed further in the second half, with the game going right down to the wire. Sheppard played three minutes in that stretch, failing to add to his box score. He finished the night with the same stats as the first half and +/- of -6.
Reed Sheppard's stats tonight:
Reed Sheppard gets outplayed by Rob Dillingham
Reed Sheppard and the Houston Rockets escaped with a 117-111 win in overtime against the Minnesota Timberwolves after a resurgent effort from Anthony Edwards and Co. Sheppard was a non-factor because of his lack of minutes.
Meanwhile, Rob Dillingham didn't get the win, but he had the playing time that many wish Sheppard received. Dillingham played 16 minutes more than his former college teammate, producing 12 points, five rebounds and seven assists on 5 of 13 shots. He was a +/- +26. His overall shooting efficiency was one of the only issues in his otherwise solid performance.
Sheppard, on the other hand, deferred to the Rockets' veteran guard rotation again. Despite Jalen Green struggling with a 3 of 9 shooting performance, coach Ime Udoka didn't turn to Sheppard. He stuck with sophomore Amen Thompson instead, giving him 37 minutes off the bench.
Thompson delivered for Udoka with 15 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks, shooting 6 of 9. That contributed to Sheppard's lack of minutes again, which saw him get bested by Dillingham in their reunion.
