"Refs pleading for the clout" - NBA fans roast referee James Williams for promoting 'Ball Does Lie' merch

Fans poked fun at NBA referee James Williams after he posted a video promoting his merch Ball Does Lie. Former Portland star Rasheed Wallace made the line "Ball don't lie" famous. The outspoken forward screamed the phrase whenever a player missed a free throw.

According to Williams, the merch is for the referees who want to talk smack while on the court. The official said in his video that the ball lies daily.

"Check it out. All y'all referees that wanna talk smack on the floor. Yup, ball does lie. It lie all the time. That ball lie every single day."

However, fans weren't impressed with his merch and they had fun roasting the official on X.

"Refs pleading for the clout 🤣," one fan said.
"The ball definitely be stretching the truth sometimes 😅," another fan said.
"I can tell them parleys hitting by the diamonds in his ear 😂," a fan noticed the earring Williams was wearing in the video.

Other fans focused on how Williams officiates.

"Just do your job correctly when the season starts," one fan said.
"Him and Scott foster about to ruin a bunch of games this season," another fan said
"Call the right calls next time," a fan said.

Williams ranks No. 56 on the list of NBA officials who make the fewest mistakes

HoopsHype released data that ranks NBA referees by their performance in the last two minutes of games. The list rated 87 officials.

Williams was ranked 56th. Their report showed he made 352 incorrect calls. Gucci has over 9,784 appearances. According to HoopsHype's data, the teams he made the most incorrect or no-calls on are the Dallas Mavericks, OKC Thunder and Denver Nuggets.

They also included the three teams Williams officiated best. Those franchises include the Portland Trail Blazers, Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers.

Che Flores is the referee who has registered the fewest errors in the league. In his 1,136 games, Flores made 28 incorrect or no-calls.
