Report: John Collins Injury: Atlanta Hawks' PF John Collins out for 2 weeks due to a left ankle injury

The Atlanta Hawks received unwelcome news on Thursday as they found out that forward John Collins is going to miss a minimum of two weeks. Collins will be sidelined due to a left ankle sprain that he sustained on Wednesday night.

NBA insider Shams Charania reported:

"Hawks’ John Collins is expected to miss a minimum of two weeks due to his left ankle sprain, sources tell TheAthletic Stadium. Collins suffered the injury Wednesday night and tests today confirmed the sprain."

While his injury is tough for the Atlanta Hawks, Collins reported weeks ago that Collins could be traded:

"The Hawks have opened up preliminary trade discussions around forward John Collins, as interested teams inquire, league sources tell The Athletic. The Suns are a team showing desire in Collins, those sources have added, but they appear uninclined to take on the long-term money of Collins, who is in the second season of a five-year, $125 million contract.
"The Hawks don’t have an imminent deal in place involving Collins, those sources say, and executives around the league believe a potential deal will be weeks and potentially months in the making ahead."

If this was the case before the injury, Atlanta will likely still be shopping him. It's even possible that John Collins could be on a different team before he comes back from his injury. While that seems unlikely, crazier things have happened in the NBA.

Through 22 games this season, John Collins hasn't played too well. He has his lowest scoring average since his rookie season at 12.3 per game. On top of that, he's shooting a career-low 21.9% from 3-point range. It's been a slow start for the Hawks forward, but he still has time to figure it out. He's proven that he's a fringe All-Star and should get back to that level soon.

Atlanta (12-10) is struggling a bit more than expected this season. Newly acquired guard Dejounte Murray has played well, but still not to the level that Atlanta as hoping for. Trae Young has also struggled a bit compared to his normal self.

Let's see what they can do without Collins.
