Reports: Miles Bridges & Charlotte Hornets are optimistic over exercising new contract option
There is optimism that the Charlotte Hornets can reach a new deal with restricted free-agent forward Miles Bridges. As reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, sources have told ESPN that the deal could come in the near future. Once the two parties come to a contract agreement, it is likely that Bridges could then begin his suspension that will be handed down by the league.
Over the summer Miles Bridges was charged with three felony counts of domestic violence for assaulting his girlfriend. In November, Bridges received a sentence of three years of probation but he does not have to serve any jail time. The case remains under investigation by the NBA, which could levy a suspension against the Hornets forward.
Bridges had a breakout season in 2021-22, averaging a career-high 20.2 points along with 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game for a team that finished 43-39. If the two sides cannot come to a deal, Bridges would hit the free agency market in the offseason.
The Hornets (8-24) have struggled this season. Miles Bridges was expected to sign an offer sheet that would have been worth over $100 million. The Hornets were likely to match whatever offer he received. The young forward would have likely been with the team for the next few seasons.
