Reports: Myles Turner to seek $20 million per year in free agency

Indiana Pacers big man Myles Turner has often found himself in trade rumors. The 26-year-old center has intrigued teams with his versatility on both ends of the floor.

When healthy, Turner can be a disruptive presence on defense. But his future with the Pacers remains up for discussion. Indiana (3-5) is trending toward a rebuild. With a number of young pieces on its roster, Turner could once again be a trade candidate.

Not only will Turner find himself centered in trade discussions again, but he's also eyeing a potential big pay day. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2022-23 season.

The talented big man will have plenty of suitors lining up. According to Michael Scotto of Hoopshype:

“There’s a belief around the league looking ahead that Turner and his team will seek over $20 million annually in free agency as an unrestricted free agent. Previously, there were rumblings about a potential Malcolm Brogdon type of extension around those numbers (two years, $45 million).”

It seems as if every year Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner finds himself in trade rumors. With Turner set to become a free agent at the end of the 2022-23 season, he will once again become a trade candidate.

NBA teams are always smitten with the idea of trading for players with expiring contracts. If a team is looking for a way to give themselves a boost down the stretch, Turner could be that option.

As it stands right now, Turner is set to make $17.5 million this season. That's a number that won't be too intimidating for teams to match salaries in a deal. Turner has had his battles with injuries over the years, but he's still been effective. Last season, he played 42 games for the Pacers.

Over that stretch, he averaged 12.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. Turner has the ability to be a dominant rim protector. He also has taken strides throughout his career when it comes to his floor spacing.

Teams are always looking for bigs who can give them advantage when it comes to their two-way ability. If Myles Turner can stay healthy throughout the season, it should only increase his trade value. For now, Turner will look to contribute for a young Indiana Pacers team. In three games this season, Myles is averaging 13.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 3.7 bpg.

If Turner doesn't get traded, he will most likely be one of the top free agent centers on the market next year. Turner has often been rumored as a potential target for the LA Lakers. Time will tell if those discussions will pick up in the future.
