Rockets forward's mom shows her aggressive side after Jalen Green gets poked in the eye by Kings playerÂ
Officiating took center stage during Tuesday's NBA Cup West Group A clash between the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings. Rockets coach Ime Udoka and rising star center Alperen Sengun took exception to a series of no-calls, earning ejections. A day later, Rockets forward Tari Eason's mother, Teroya Eason, continued blasting the referees.
Entering Tuesday, Houston had won 10 of its last 12 games and had a 3-0 record in NBA Cup play. Another victory would have clinched the squad the Western Conference's top in-season tournament seed. Instead, it controversially fell 120-111.
After relinquishing an 11-point first-half lead, the Rockets faced an uphill fourth-quarter battle. They also dealt with seemingly questionable officiating, as the referees allowed the Kings to play physically in the closing stanza.
Houston's frustration ultimately boiled over, as Udoka and Sengun were tossed for heated confrontations with officials regarding apparent missed calls.
Teroya Eason also later opposed a late third-quarter common foul call against Rockets shooting guard Jalen Green. The fourth-year player drove to the basket and was struck in the face and eye by Kings forward Jae Crowder, drawing blood. Nevertheless, the play wasn't reviewed for a flagrant foul.
On Wednesday, Eason shared a photo of the rough contact against Green on X/Twitter and questioned Sacramento's defensive tactics.
"Write a f**king article about whatever new defensive play this s**t is!!!" Eason wrote.
Despite its frustrating loss, Houston (15-7) still advanced to the NBA Cup quarterfinals, where it will host the Golden State Warriors (12-8) on Dec. 11.
Ime Udoka also rips into referees after Rockets' controversial loss to Kings
Following Tuesday's contentious NBA Cup loss, Ime Udoka also laid into the officiating crew. The reigning West Coach of the Month underscored how they seemingly intentionally called the game in Sacramento's favor.
"Missed calls, blatant missed calls right in front of you," Udoka said. "You're calling ticky-tack moving screens, little s**t like that, but you don't want to call the obvious ones right in front of you. That was it."
Udoka also provided insight into what he told the referees that led to his ejection.
"Thought (Sengun) got fouled a few times on that drive and on the layup, and they don't want to call it," Udoka said. "So, I told him to get some f**king glasses and open your eyes."
Thus, Udoka seemingly got his money's worth ahead of Thursday's road clash against Golden State.
