Rome Streetz namedrops Magic Johnson and Steph Curry on acclaimed new Westside Gunn EP 'Still Praying': "Turn him to Curry goat"

Rome Streetz, a rapper from Queens, name-dropped NBA star Steph Curry and NBA legend Magic Johnson in his feature on 'Underground Kings' on the acclaimed new Westside Gunn EP 'Still Praying.'

The song was uploaded to Westside Gunn's YouTube channel on Nov. 1 and has already received more than 17K views.

The song is 3 minutes and 47 seconds long, and Streetz's verse starts at 1 minute 55 seconds. The Queens rapper starts his verse by talking about the social issues prevalent against black men. He talks about imprisonment and asks the people locked behind bars not to let the imprisonment time affect their mental state, as "They can't lock your mind."

After that, Streetz takes a diss at other rappers and name-drops Warriors star Steph Curry.

"Cook your favorite rapper, turn him to curry goat."

The rapped used clever wordplay to include the NBA star in his verse. Steph Curry is nicknamed Chef Curry for his incredible performances on the court. Streetz used that reference to say that he can cook other rappers in battles as Steph Curry cooks his opponents on the basketball court.

He then name-drops NBA legend Magic midway through his verse:

"They sick, I'm like Magic Johnson, they wonder if I still got it."

Here, the Queens rapper used Magic Johnson's reference to his personal past.

Johnson contracted HIV, a virus that stays with the host for its entire life, in the early 1990s. However, people jokingly question if the NBA legend still has the virus. Streetz used the wordplay to draw a parallel between Johnson getting asked about having HIV and him selling drugs in the past and still getting asked about it.

Kanye West once name-dropped Magic Johnson in his hit song "Can't Tell Me Nothing"

Magic Johnson has built a legacy so big that it has influenced not only the world of basketball but also pop culture as a whole. The Lakers legends were once name-dropped in a song by Kanye West, one of the greatest artists of the 21st century. In his song "Can't Tell Me Nothing," which has over 161 million views on YouTube, West used clever wordplay to reference Johnson.

"No, I already graduated, And you can live through anything if Magic made it"

West also addressed the NBA legend contracting HIV. However, unlike Streetz, West used it as an inspiration to motivate his audience. He used Johnson as an example, highlighting that if he can survive a deadly virus, people can live through anything else.
