Russell Westbrook unpacks his brand-new Nuggets swingman icon No. 4 Jersey
This season, Russell Westbrook is starting a new chapter in his career. Before he embarks on this journey, the former MVP gave the world a glimpse of his threads.
Following a stint with the LA Lakers that didn't yield positive results, many started to think it was the beginning of the end for Westbrook. However, he managed to recoup his stock with the LA Clippers. Despite being a productive piece for them off the bench, the organization decided to move on from him after just one-and-a-half seasons.
Upon hitting free agency this summer, Westbrook and the Denver Nuggets agreed on a deal. The former All-Star is on a contender headlined by the reigning MVP Nikola Jokic.
Before his tenure with the Nuggets officially gets underway, Westbrook posted a photo of his new No. 4 jersey on his Instagram story.
Westbrook's time with the Nuggets will mark the second time in his NBA career that he's donned the No. 4 instead of No. 0. The first was back in 2021 during his short stint with the Washington Wizards.
Heading into his 17th year, Westbrook is still an all-around threat on the floor. Last season for the Clippers, he posted averages of 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
Russell Westbrook gets big shoutout from LeBron James' son
At his peak, Russell Westbrook was one of the most dominant point guards in the history of the NBA. This week, he received some high praise from the child of an all-time great.
LeBron James' youngest son Bryce was asked to name his top five players of all time. As expected, he named his father and his longtime friend Carmelo Anthony. Rounding out the group were Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Westbrook.
During his prime, Westbrook was doing things the NBA had never seen before. In 2017, he became just the second player in history to average a triple-double for an entire season. What's more impressive is that he would go on to achieve this feat three more times in his career.
For most of NBA history, Oscar Robertson was the king of the triple-double. However, that title now belongs to Westbrook. If he is able to notch one more in his career, he'll be the only player in history to have at least 200.
Ironically enough, the active player closest to him on the all-time list is his new teammate Jokic. The superstar center sits in fourth place with 130 triple-doubles.
Given the company that Bryce James has put him in, it's clear Westbrook had a lasting impact on the younger generation.
