Shams Charania reports Jimmy Butler adamant on staying in Miami, uncertain over Heat offering extension
Jimmy Butler in his five years with the Miami Heat has undoubtedly become the franchise's face. However, he has now found himself in a position that he wouldn't wish to be in. Butler has only one season left in his contract with the Heat and the question now is if he will leave or stay with the franchise.
NBA insider Shams Charnia has reported that the Miami Heat star is fixated on staying with the franchise but there is some uncertainty from the organization's side. Butler has had a good career with the Heat so far, making the NBA finals twice and nearly doubling LeBron James' triple-double record (9) with the franchise tallying 17.
"There are multiple teams out there that would give him an extension… The Heat do not want to trade him; he wants an extension. Will they give him an extension? That’s the question," Charania reportedly said.
Jimmy Butler is a spectacular post-season player who has lived up to his hype every time. However, he has failed to get a championship with the franchise despite his best efforts. This season the Miami Heat had yet another run as the underdogs making it to the playoffs. They faced the Boston Celtics in the opening round of the playoffs reminiscent of their 2020 clash in the Eastern Conference Finals.
However, this time Butler was injured and had to be sidelined from the action. Miami eventually succumbed to the mighty Celtics, getting eliminated in the first round. As we enter the off-season, the Heat fans will have to keep an eye out for Butler's situation.
Golden State Warriors reportedly show interest in acquiring Jimmy Butler
With Jimmy Butler hoping for a max extension and the Heat hesitant to offer one, some will anticipate Butler moving away from the Magic City. Many teams have shown interest in acquiring Miami's star forward, including the Golden State Warriors, according to reports.
As per the Athletic's Anthony Slater, the Golden State Warriors are open to having conversations with the Miami Heat if they make Jimmy Butler available. The Warriors are in a transitional period for the first time in the past decade, with the core of Curry-Green-Thomposon starting to show its age, and possibly disbanding altogether. Curry will be 37 next season, Klay Thompson could be entering free agency, and Draymond Green spent logged the most suspensions of his career this season after multiple altercations.
The Warriors may be looking to bring in some fresh legs and say goodbye to a few old ones to become the championship team they once were. Jimmy Butler's work ethic and attention to defense could be a great solution.
