Shams Charania sends strongly worded retort after Jimmy Butler’s agent’s remarks on false reporting
NBA insider Shams Charania clapped back at Jimmy Butler's agent after the latter called him out for his report on a potential trade for the former Chicago Bulls star. The insider joined Thursday's edition of "First Take" with Stephen A. Smith to double down on his report and clarify that he confirmed everything he reported.
"I 1000% stand by my reporting. It's fully vetted. And as a professional, that's what I do, that's what I get paid to do... report truthfully and accurately. That's what this is. Period."
After recalling that he said the Miami Heat are listening to offers for the player, with the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors being the first three teams linked with the swingman. After that, the Phoenix Suns were added to the list, prompting Butler's agent's response.
"1000% I stand by it. It is 100% facts," Charania added.
After Shams Charania reported about the Phoenix Suns, Bernie Lee had a strong response to the insider, calling him out for allegedly spreading false rumors.
"Alright listen. I gave you a pass yesterday because I was busy but if you don’t stop putting my name on your complete and utter made up bullshit because you know you normally arent worth my time to acknowledge," Lee posted.
After five years with the Miami Heat, two NBA Finals appearances and three Eastern Conference finals trips, Jimmy Butler's tenure is seemingly coming to an end. His agent, however, isn't happy with Shams Charania's report.
Jimmy Butler reacts to trade rumors
On Wednesday, Jimmy Butler talked with reporters to address the trade rumors, having a surprising reaction to all the things being said about him.
“I actually like it,” Butler said. “It’s good to be talked about. I don’t think there’s (such a) thing as bad publicity—to a point. But, you know, somebody talks about me getting traded; it’s a lot.”
He also touched on a potential new contract, mentioning all the factors he's taking into consideration for his future with the Heat or any other team.
“My kids matter, my happiness matters. My well-being matters, and my family matters. Right now, it’s all about staying healthy and playing basketball; I think I’ve done that so far, so let’s see what happens.”
Butler remains a big player in the NBA, but it remains to be seen if the Heat will keep him or ship him somewhere else.
