Shannon Sharpe declares Anthony Davis an MVP candidate: "The best player on the court even with 2 guys with 6 MVPs and 5 Finals MVP"

Anthony Davis played like an MVP candidate in the LA Lakers' huge win over the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Fox Sports' Shannon Sharpe. Davis went toe-to-toe with Giannis Antetokounmpo in the Lakers' four-point win on Friday at the Fiserv Forum on Friday night.

In a tweet posted after the Lakers' win, Sharpe proclaimed Davis an MVP candidate following his performance against the Bucks. The NFL legend reckons that Davis was the best player on the court that also had LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

"This AD tonite is an MVP candidate," Sharpe wrote. "He was the best player on the court even with 2 guys with 6 regular-season mvp awards and 5 finals mvps. Go argue with homies. I'm busy celebrating #LakerNation #lakerswin"

Anthony Davis ended the game with 44 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks.

It was Davis' ninth straight double-double in what appears to be a comeback season. After the game, the 29-year-old big man credited Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers for inspiring him to play well.

"I saw him before the game, and he said, 'I need 30 tonight,'"Davis said. "I just saw him, and he said, 'I only said 30, not 40.' It's always good for him to come out and watch the Lakers play."

LeBron James, meanwhile, had 28 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists, while Russell Westbrook added 15 points, seven rebounds and 11 assists off the bench. James also passed Magic Johnson on the NBA's all-time assists leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo put up 40 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Khris Middleton had 17 points, two rebounds and seven assists in his first game of the season, while Jrue Holiday added 28 points, six rebounds and nine assists.

Anthony Davis and the Lakers improved to 9-12 on the season, while the Bucks are now 15-6. The Lakers will continue their road trip on Sunday in Washington, D.C.

Anthony Davis has been plagued by injuries since joining the LA Lakers. However, Davis is proving his doubters wrong with his great performances this season. He has been on a tear, especially in his last nine games. Davis is averaging 31.9 points, 15.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.9 blocks in that span.

Davis also shot 61.4% from the field, including 33.3% from beyond the arc. He's averaging 27.2 ppg, 12.6 rbg, 2.7 apg, 1.4 spg and 2.4 bpg this season. He has also stayed relatively healthy, missing just two games so far.

The Lakers will need Davis to continue these performacnes if they want a shot at making the postseason. Davis played his best game of the season on Friday against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, but it only gets tougher for the Lakers from here.

They're just starting a six-game road trip, with the Washington Wizards up next. They will also face the Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors, Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons before returning home.

However, it doesn't get any easier for the Lakers at the Crypto.com Arena. They will welcome the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns in a span of one week.
