Shannon Sharpe gives LA Lakers incredibly low chances to win NBA title with a healthy Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis' return will provide the LA Lakers with a huge boost. But one sports analyst isn't convinced it's enough to take the Lakers over the top.
Before suffering a foot injury, Davis was arguably playing the best basketball of his career. In the six games before being sidelined, Davis averaged 33.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 66.1%.
Davis hasn't been on the court since Dec. 16, when he played 17 minutes against the Denver Nuggets. Since then, the Lakers (22-26) have started to show potential when it comes to making a push towards the playoffs.
On "Undisputed," analyst Shannon Sharpe said that despite Davis nearing a return, he's still doubtful about the LA Lakers' chances of a title. Sharpe emphasized that despite Davis and LeBron James, the Lakers still have a wide range of questions that need to be answered.
"I think they have so much ground to make up," Sharpe said. "You still going to have to figure out a closing lineup ... 5% chance if AD comes back, plays like he played before he got injured."
LA Lakers await the return of Anthony Davis
The LA Lakers are hoping that Anthony Davis can return to his previous level of play before his injury. If that can happen, the Lakers will have enough to make a run at a spot in the NBA playoffs.
But when it comes to a shot at a championship, the Lakers may not have enough, even with LeBron James and Davis. Los Angeles continues to be a team that is generating attention concerning the NBA's trade deadline. The front office made a move recently to upgrade the roster, adding young forward Rui Hachimura from the Washington Wizards.
Depth has been a question for the Lakers throughout the season. With the addition of Hachimura, it could prove to be important when it comes to the team not leaning on Anthony Davis once he returns.
Los Angeles (22-26) has won three of its last five games. After winning two consecutive games, the Lakers fell to the LA Clippers 133-115 on Tuesday night. Davis is set to return Wednesday night against the San Antonio Spurs (14-33), barring a setback in warmups.
