Shaquille O'Neal reveals he spent 5k a week on Amazon on "crazy ugly big sunglasses"

Speaking on “The Big Podcast” LA Lakers legend Shaquille O'Neal revealed details about his crazy spending spree on Amazon.

Now working as an NBA analyst, O'Neal was one of the most dominant players that the NBA has ever seen. After a legendary career spanning almost 18 years, Shaquille O'Neal made a name for himself by becoming a philanthropist and investing in a range of businesses.

The 50-year-old owns over a 100 “Five Guys” restaurants, 17 Auntie Annie’s, and also has a diverse investment portfolio. Shaquille O'Neal was an early investor in Google and Apple, and has his own charity foundation as well. With a net worth of over $450 million, there is little doubt that O’Neal has every opportunity to spend big bucks on things he might not even need.

During a recent podcast appearance, O’Neal revealed that he regularly spends over $5k on Amazon, and habitually buys things he does not need. He said:

“We need to do a segment The Shaq buys on Amazon. I'm telling you I probably spent about five grand a week on Amazon.”

One of the hosts, Nischelle Turner, referenced a pair of black sunglasses that Shaquille was wearing, and wanted to know what he typed on Amazon to buy them:

“I typed in Crazy ugly big sunglasses you, these pop up I was like oooooh.”

Shaquille O’Neal is known to be a huge spender

Shaquille O’ Neal played for five teams apart from the LA Lakers during his NBA career. This includes the likes of the Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards and even the Boston Celtics. That, in addition to his sensible investments, has allowed him to acquire a huge fortune which is said to be worth over $450 million.

Back in 2018, Shaquille O'Neal had revealed how his credit card got declined at Walmart when he attempted to bill it for over $70k. The incident took place when he first moved to Phoenix and O’Neal had claimed that the company thought his card had been stolen.

Shaq was careless with his money towards the start of his career and once spent over a million dollars in one hour, back in 1992. In 2014, O’Neal had also revealed that he regularly spent around $1k on mobile apps every week, which is a huge amount even for today’s standards.

Of course, things seem to have changed once he received a piece of advice from Jeff Bezos:

“I was at a tech conference in Vegas and I heard the great Jeff Bezos say ‘If you invest in things, it’s going to change people’s lives. It’s basically based off one principle — belief. [Do] you believe in the product? Is it gonna change people’s lives? ... That’s what it is about for me.”

Needless to say, the principle appears to have worked out well for Shaquille O'Neal.
