"Shut the noise boys": Stephon Castle's mom Quannette dishes out powerful message amid UConn’s top-10 triumph
UConn pulled off a statement win against the No. 8-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs on Saturday and Stephon Castle's mother, Quannette, told the doubters that the Huskies remain the team to beat.
Led by coach Dan Hurley, Connecticut is in search of a historic and rare three-peat after winning the NCAA national title in 2023 and 2024. It is a feat that has only been achieved once before in the history of men's college basketball.
Three defeats in their first 10 games, however, had many questioning whether this UConn team could go all the way. A 77-71 win against one of the top teams in the nation seems to have the juggernaut back on track.
Stephon Castle was a member of UConn's 2023-24 team and the talented point guard was instrumental in leading the Huskies to the championship. In June, Castle was drafted by the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, but his mother remains a loyal and passionate UConn follower.
On Sunday, Quannette Castle sent a clear message to the Huskies roster, and the doubters.
"What they going to say now.. SHUT THE NOISE BOYS! STAY LOCKED IN!" Said Castle on her X account.
In the post, Castle attaches a GIF of the Huskies mascot with the words, "Husky Up!!!!!"
Quannette Castle has been vocal about her support for UConn since the school landed her son. She continues to be an avid follower and a big supporter of the program.
The win against a top-10 team will relieve some pressure on coach Hurley. After three consecutive losses, to Memphis, Colorado and Dayton, in November, Hurley's team slid down the national rankings.
They entered Saturday's game as the No. 18-ranked team. That is a significant drop considering UConn was one of the favorites to win it all coming into the season, along with Kansas.
The win over Gonzaga sees the Huskies improve to 8-3 on the season. A Big East showdown against a talented Xavier Musketeers (8-3) team is next on the schedule for Connecticut.
Stephon Castle's mom Quannette thrilled after her son's big night against Steph Curry's Warriors
San Antonio Spurs rookie Stephon Castle was the fourth pick in the 2024 NBA draft and the 6-foot-6 guard has hit the ground running. Castle has become a key figure in Gregg Popovich's lineup and started 17 of the Spurs' 25 games this season so far.
In a 104-94 win against a Steph Curry-led Golden State Warriors team on Nov. 23, Castle had one of his best outings of the season. The 20-year-old was exceptional on the night, finishing with 19 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Following the emphatic performance, his proud mother, Quannette, couldn't hold back her excitement and shared a special four-word message for her son on X:
"Winner. Stay hungry son."
The Spurs were in need of a point guard this offseason and seem to have found a great fit in Stephon Castle. The rising star continues to improve year-over-year and has evolved into one of the NBA's top young guards.
