Skip Bayless calls out LeBron James for 'selling the narrative' of not chasing scoring title while LA Lakers lose
LeBron James continues to close in on the NBA's All-Time scoring record. For now, the superstar forward wants to focus on getting wins for his team.
Coming into the 2022-23 season, basketball fans were watching closely to track James' pursuit of history. He is still on the path to passing NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time scoring record. As of Thursday morning, James is 422 points away from passing the record that has been held by Kareem since 1989.
Throughout the year, LeBron has been asked repeatedly about his pursuit of the record. The forward has reiterated that, while it's an incredible accomplishment, he wants to win more than anything at this stage of his career. LeBron recently turned 38-years-old. His time to compete for a championship is running out.
With the Lakers battling to get into the NBA Playoffs conversation, James knows it could be one of his last chances to make a run at a title. Appearing on "Undisputed," analyst Skip Bayless called out LeBron for "selling the narrative" when it comes to the scoring record.
“I don’t know why LeBron keeps selling this narrative. It feels like a ‘give up’ speech,” Skip Bayless said.
LeBron James is focused on getting LA Lakers back to Playoffs
The pursuit of Kareem Abdul Jabbar's all-time scoring record is going to get plenty of the national spotlight. It's been one of the most historic accomplishments in the history of the NBA.
Since Kareem retired in 1989, the record has seemed like a monumental feat for any player to catch. After dominating the league throughout his illustrious career, LeBron James is now on path to pass the legendary big man.
James continues to downplay his pursuit of the record. On one hand, he knows that, if he keeps playing at this level, he will eventually accomplish the feat. But on the other hand, James knows there's a bigger goal at the end of the road for the 2022-23 season.
With LeBron James currently playing in his 20th NBA season, the time is running out for James to have chances to secure another championship. The LA Lakers have started to trend in the right direction. They currently have a 19-22 overall record. But there's still plenty of work left to be done.
The hope is that the Lakers can get fellow superstar Anthony Davis back in the mix soon. After that, Los Angeles could have the pieces in place to make a push up the Western Conference standings. If Los Angeles can get back to the playoffs, history has shown that James can have a chance against any opponent.
