"Somebody gotta sue Nike" - NBA fans in frenzy after reported leak of 2025 City Edition jerseys
The NBA introduced the City Edition jerseys to give the inaugural In-Season Tournament a different vibe and look. It wasn’t until November 2023 of the 2023-24 season that the league gave fans a first look at the new uniforms. NBA.com called it jerseys representing “stories, history and heritage that make each franchise unique.”
The tournament, now called the Emirates Cup, will begin on Nov. 12. However, photos of the jerseys have already emerged earlier than expected. @EldenMonitors shared on X, formerly Twitter, jerseys of the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics and New Orleans Pelicans.
Basketball fans reacted to the sneak peek:
“Somebody gotta sue Nike”
@clappesquad1 wasn’t happy with the photos:
“They gave us AAU jerseys I’m DISGUSTED”
One fan pointed out the worst jersey in the collection:
“That Boston one is garbage I can NOT lie”
Another fan hoped these uniforms weren’t the real deal:
“Tell me these are troll.”
Nice Kicks didn’t just settle for a few City Edition jerseys. They posted one for each team for the upcoming Emirates Cup. It remains to be seen if Nike or the NBA will comment on these leaked photos.
If these uniforms are indeed what’s coming out for the In-Season Tournament, it’s safe to assume some Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls fans are not going to be happy about them.
The NBA City Edition jerseys will give more color to In-Season Tournament
The NBA did not just introduce City Edition jerseys for the In-Season Tournament, the league also asked teams for new basketball court designs. The outburst of vibrant colors added hype and excitement.
Next season’s Emirates Cup seems to be on that trend based on how the City Edition uniforms are designed. If the leaked photos are the official designs, refreshingly vibrant colors will continue to grab the limelight.
One such example is the Memphis Grizzlies' predominantly red with a few trimmings of white uniform. This is in stark contrast to the regular season’s traditional blue and black (road) or white and blue (home) colors.
The Toronto Raptors have a nearly all-black City Edition uniform, which stands out from the rest of the jerseys. But, to compensate for the drab color, Nike brought back the iconic Raptor logo that Vince Carter-era fans surely remember.
The NBA doesn’t start until Oct. 22 and the Emirates Cup opens roughly a month from opening night.
