"Sometimes you have to scrap them": Draymond Green gets candid on Steve Kerr's Team USA rotations
Draymond Green has kept tabs on Team USA’s 2024 Olympic campaign in Paris. Green’s Golden State Warriors teammate Steph Curry and coach Steve Kerr are key members of the group that is aiming for another gold medal. Green, who helped the Americans to the gold in Tokyo three years ago, is unsurprisingly rooting for them to succeed.
Curry grabbed headlines in the Americans’ stirring 95-91 comeback win against Serbia on Thursday. The Warriors’ franchise cornerstone scored 36 points, seven more than his total in four previous games. If “Chef Curry” did not have his touch, Team USA might have suffered an embarrassing defeat.
Steve Kerr remained in the spotlight as he continued his stance of rotating players, benching one or two every game. The multi-titled coach stuck to that plan against the Serbians, sitting out Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton for the second time in the Olympics.
Draymond Green finally reacted to that strategy on X, formerly Twitter:
“Sometimes you have to scrap them rotations”
Serbia led for roughly 35 minutes in a 40-minute game. Kerr’s vaunted bench, led by Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Anthony Davis, Bam Adebayo and Derrick White, wasn’t as impactful. White and Adebayo had their worst game in the Olympics.
Draymond Green might have wanted Steve Kerr To use Jayson Tatum, a first-team All-NBA player over the last three seasons. There can’t be a big drop off from what White brings to what Tatum can do. Serbia’s wings had their way for most of the night, giving Kerr more than enough reason to plug in the 6-foot-9 Boston Celtics star.
Fans react to Draymond Green’s comment about Steve Kerr’s Team USA rotations
Draymond Green knows Steve Kerr very well since he has played for him for a decade already. The 2016-17 NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner is in an excellent position to comment about how his Golden State Warriors coach ran his Team USA rotations.
Basketball fans couldn’t help but react to Green’s X post:
A Boston Celtics supporter grudgingly had this to say:
“Kerr is a bum you going up in my rankings ngl”
One fan didn’t hold back:
“Our clown coach aint doing shitt broo”
@30problemz jumped on that thread:
“Cooked Cteve Kerr”
Somebody pointed out what many probably thought:
“U could’ve been told him this bruh”
Draymond Green’s comments didn’t matter as Team USA won. The opposite would have happened had the Americans lost. Kerr would not have been able to quiet the criticism had Serbia pulled off the upset of the tournament.
