Spurs' Jeremy Sochan accuses Mavericks fans of setting off fire alarm in hotel before season opener
Jeremy Sochan and the San Antonio Spurs open their 2024-25 regular-season campaign against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night. Ahead of this all-Texas matchup, the young forward accused Mavericks fans of some nefarious acts.
Since the dawn of sports, it's common for home fans to try to disrupt the visiting team's experience. Sochan believes that Mavs fans might be playing tricks on the Spurs before their season opener.
Just before midnight on Wednesday, Jeremy Sochan posted a video of him being woken up in his hotel to a false fire alarm. He then suggested that a Mavericks fan was behind it, attempting to throw them off schedule a night before their nationally televised matchup.
The Mavs and Spurs are set to face off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, with the game being aired on TNT. For San Antonio, it marks the start of Victor Wembanyama's second year in the league. Dallas, meanwhile, will be looking to build positive momentum after coming up short in the NBA Finals last season.
It has yet to be confirmed if the false fire alarm was indeed the work of a Mavericks fan, but Sochan seems to have his mind made up. Only time will tell if this midnight wake-up call impacts their play on the court.
Jeremy Sochan looking to continue building on strong start to his NBA career
Since being picked ninth by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2022 draft, Jeremy Sochan has been a versatile prospect. Heading into his third season, he'll look to continue showing that he can be a key piece to the team's long-term core.
After a promising rookie season, Sochan managed to increase his production in year two. He played in 74 games for the Spurs and averaged 11.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists, all career-highs.
One thing that should help Jeremy Sochan continue his development is playing his natural position this year. In an effort to be experimental with their young players, the Spurs trotted him out at point guard on numerous occasions. Following the addition of Chris Paul, that will no longer be necessary.
The key thing for Sochan moving forward is showing he can be successful playing alongside Victor Wembanyama in the frontcourt. As a 6-foot-8 athletic forward with length, he and the reigning Rookie of the Year could make an interesting frontcourt pairing. They just have to figure out how to successfully coexist.
Having vets like Paul and Harrison Barnes to learn from should be beneficial for Sochan and the rest of the Spurs' core. They could absorb a lot of knowledge from them that could aid them in their development for years to come.
