Stefon Diggs identifies one NBA veteran as an ideal NFL receiver candidate
Stefon Diggs named Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving as his ideal candidate to become a receiver in the NFL. The Houston Texans wide receiver sat down with GQ Sports for a short interview, during which he answered questions related to his career, the NFL and his general game.
The host asked Diggs which NBA players he thinks could play wide receiver in the National Football League. The official Instagram account of GQ Sports uploaded the segment from the interview:
"This is a very complicated question. I think Kyrie Irving will make a good receiver," Diggs said. "In my opinion, we go back to opinions."
Diggs named the Mavericks star player as his ideal candidate. The Texans wide receiver was cautious in reminding the fans that his response was his opinion so that no one would spark debates on his answer.
The NFL star did not give any reason for choosing Irving as his desired candidate. However, we can expect that the Mavericks star's amazing ball-handling skills influenced his answer.
Kyrie Irving's 2024-25 NBA season preview
The Dallas Mavericks shook the basketball world when they announced the signing of Irving. The fans were thrilled about the possibility of seeing court wizard Luka Doncic and ball wizard Irving playing together. As the season progressed, the Mavs did not disappoint.
Although they faced some setbacks midseason, they climbed back up to the top and made it to the NBA Finals. The Boston Celtics defeated them, proving themselves to be the better team last season. However, Irving had a phenomenal individual season and delivered some stunning performances.
He averaged 25.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game in the regular season. His postseason stats were equally impressive: He averaged 22.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists. Irving stunned everyone when he and Luka scored 33 points each to bury a feisty Minnesota Timberwolves 116-107 in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.
Additionally, he delivered a spectacular performance in Game 3 against the Celtics in the Finals. He scored 35 points, collected three rebounds and provided two assists, but the Mavs failed to seal the win and lost with a final score of 106-99.
With the arrival of former Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson, Doncic and Irving have all the help they need. The upcoming season is looking bright for the Mavs — they could go a step further than the success of last season and win it all.
