Chris Paul's milestone breaks a 15-year record

Victor Wembanyama scored a three pointer off of Chris Paul's assist during the Spurs' 121-116 win over the Pelicans. This play etched CP3's name into the history books as he surpassed Jason Kidd on the All-Time assist rankings, taking him up to second place.

The current Mavericks coach had 12,091 assists as a player and became the second-highest assist earner in the league in November 2009. Having surpassed Mark Jackson on the list, Kidd held this record for 15 years before Chris Paul overtook him on Sunday.

Earning 10 assists against the Pelicans, Chris Paul ended the night with 12,099 assists and earned this milestone quicker than Jason Kidd. The former NBA champion earned his 12,091 assists in 1,391 games while Paul achieved his feat in 1,296 games, averaging 9.3 assists per game.

He became only the third player to record 12,000 assists on November 16, 2024, against the Los Angeles Lakers. It took Paul 11 games to add 92 assists to his tally and surpass Kidd on the All-Time list.

Poetically, Chris Paul earned this milestone against the side that drafted him in 2005. Known as the New Orleans Hornets at the time of his draft, Chris Paul spent six seasons with the team before leaving for Los Angeles in 2011.
