Steph Curry Injury Update: Warriors superstar able to do non-contact shooting drills at practice

Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors missed the 2023 NBA All-Star Game due to a left leg injury. Curry has not played a game since Feb. 4, when he suffered partially torn ligaments in his left leg, as well as a contusion, against the Dallas Mavericks.

More than two weeks after suffering the injury, the reigning NBA Finals MVP was back on the court for a non-contact practice. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr revealed that Curry started doing some light shooting work on Tuesday at the UCLA campus.

"First time on the court, so he'll do a few things lightly and see where he goes from there," Kerr said.

The Golden State Warriors released an update five days after Steph Curry was injured. The defending champs didn't give a timetable for Curry's return, with the four-time champ giving an honest assessment of his recovery.

Before the Warriors' game against the Washington Wizards last week, he revealed that he was planning to return after the All-Star break. However, he was unsure when and is likely to miss their first game back against the LA Lakers on Thursday.

"It's all dictated around how this heals," Curry said. "This is different than the shoulder, where it was pretty predictable where I would be able to get to a point where I could play and not re-injure it or put myself in jeopardy out there on the floor.
"This one's different because ligaments can heal on all different types of timelines. So there's like a window for each checkpoint.
"After the All-Star break, I'm going to hopefully get back on the court. Then depending on how things go from there, you can start to key in on a specific date to get back."
Steph Curry said he doesn’t have a specific timeline for his return. Hopes to get back on court after the All-Star break. But will clearly miss a number of games post ASB. https://t.co/FIR8QBdpz6

The Golden State Warriors need Steph Curry to be fully healthy for the rest of the season. They are currently ninth in the Western Conference standings, with a 29-29 record. The Warriors are just two games behind fifth place, but are just two games ahead of the 12th spot.

The West looks set to remain tight until the end of the regular season, so Golden State can't afford to lose too many more games. They will have to rely on Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole offensively while Curry remains out.

The 34-year-old superstar is having an MVP-caliber season, averaging 29.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He's also shooting 49.5% from the field, 42.7% from beyond the arc and 92.2% from the free throw line.
