Steph Curry and Kevin Durant's mothers reminisce former GSW duo's 'cold' pairing: "Would've had 20 rings by now"
Steph Curry and Kevin Durant formed one of the most formidable duos in the history of the NBA during their three-year stint with the Golden State Warriors between 2016 and 2019. The Warriors won titles in 2017 and 2018, and would have very likely completed a three-peat if not for injuries to Durant and Klay Thompson.
While the two generational players had great chemistry on the court, their families created a rapport off of it, including their mothers. Kevin Durant’s mother, Wanda Durant, appeared on Sonya Curry’s (Steph’s mom) show titled “Raising Fame” on Sunday. The two proud mothers reminisced about the superstars' time together at Golden State.
Wanda Durant said, via Duane Rankin:
“Oh, man, we would have had 20 rings. … We would have had, you know, we would have had 20 rings by now. And it was about 10 years ago. That's how cold they were, right?”
In the years KD and Steph Curry played together, the team almost seemed unbeatable. The Warriors won 67 games in the 2016-17 regular season and went 16-1 in the playoffs. While the next title was a bit challenging, the duo and the rest of the team completed the quest for straight titles. Golden State beat the Cleveland Cavaliers on both occasions.
The Warriors were well and truly in the running for a third straight title before an Achilles tear to Durant and an ACL tear for Thompson derailed their 2019 NBA Finals run.
Steph Curry and Kevin Durant re-lived their GSW run with Team USA in 2024 Paris Olympics
Steph Curry and Kevin Durant’s time with the Golden State Warriors came to an earlier end than their mothers liked. While staying together could have meant more titles, KD decided to part ways and join the Brooklyn Nets. Now, he plays for the Phoenix Suns. While Curry won one more title after Durant’s departure, the Slim Reaper has yet to taste postseason success since leaving the Warriors.
The two recently got back together to represent Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The team won gold after a couple of hard-fought games in the semifinals and final. While Curry really shone in the final two games, as he combined for 60 points, Durant played a great supporting hand.
While it was great watching Steph Curry and Kevin Durant team up, the icing on the cake was the presence of LeBron James. There’s no doubt that the three are the most iconic players of the past 15 years, and seeing them together was a thing of joy for all basketball fans.
