Steph Curry provides worrying injury update after dealing with knee ailment for the first time
Crisis is a term thrown about often in the NBA, and the Golden State Warriors are teetering on the brink of one right now but still has a team that is capable of beating anyone if all clicks well. Adding to the misery, Steph Curry has handed the Warriors faithful a worrying update with the news that he has picked up a new injury - bilateral knee tendinitis - one he’s never dealt with before in his career.
Steph Curry made a return to the starting lineup against Kevin Durant-led Phoenix Suns on Saturday after missing the last game due to injury.
As expected, Curry struggled in the first half, going 0-for-5 from the field. But he bounced back with a strong third quarter, finishing with 23 points on 8-of-21 shooting.
Despite Curry's efforts, the Warriors suffered their fourth successive loss with a 105-113 scoreline, edging closer towards a crisis.
In a subdued mood after the game, Curry provided a general update on the state of his injury, which was understandably disappointing but the Warriors star remained optimistic.
"It has the potential to be like a nagging type thing if you don't take care of it,” Curry said (via @anthonyVslater on X). “I'm not worried about it. I'm not concerned about it at all. It's just the deeper you get into your career, the more things pop up, and you just gotta figure it out."
What’s next for Steph Curry and the Warriors?
Despite the bad results, Steph Curry has insisted that he is still happy with the performances.
When asked whether this specific ailment will see him missing more games in the future, he replied:
"Whether that's a back-to-back here or there, we'll decide that as we go through. I'm just trying to control how I feel and know that it's not a forced decision. It's a smart decision."
Steve Kerr and the Warriors medical team’s approach on how they handle Steph Curry’s injury over the course of the season, which requires careful management, will be crucial in sustaining their trajectory this season as they navigate the high demands of the NBA.
The Warriors have two days off before facing the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday. Curry will use this time to rest and recover. A trip to Denver is a banana skin for Curry & Co, who haven't defeated the Nuggets since March 2022. Denver has swept the Warriors in the last two seasons.
