Steph Curry reacts in 4 words to Lakers' signing of Quincy Olivari
On Saturday, the LA Lakers decided to sign Quincy Olivari to a two-way deal for the 2024-25 season, which caught the attention of Steph Curry. Throughout the preseason, Olivari impressed fans and teammates alike. Specifically, in the Lakers' final preseason game of the year, Olivari logged 22 points and seven rebounds, securing him a two-way deal for the season ahead.
After news emerged that LA was signing him for the season, Steph Curry, who Olivari previously named as his favorite player, was quick to take to Instagram, posting a four-word message ahead of what will be Olivari's rookie year.
"Real as they come @quincyolivari"
For Olivari, the shoutout from Curry is more than just attention from one of the greatest point guards of all time, it's a mark of approval from his childhood idol. Prior to the Instagram shoutout, Olivari's play against the Warriors on Friday caught the attention of Curry.
Although Curry didn't play on Friday, he posed for a photo with Olivari, and gave him a pair of signed shoes, which Olivari shared photos of on his own Instagram, along with a picture of himself wearing a jersey autographed by Curry as a kid.
"I appreciate u big dawg," - Quincy Olivari thanks Steph Curry for Instagram shoutout
After speaking with media members about how much it meant to him to play in front of Steph Curry, Quincy Olivari was quick to thank his idol on Instagram. In addition to Curry's post catching the attention of Olivari, a number of NBA vets also took note.
Former players such as Chandler Parsons and Robert Parish both noticed, with Parish pointing out that Curry likely made Olivari's year with the heartfelt post.
In response, Olivari commented:
Of course, as previously mentioned, the heartfelt gesture from Steph Curry came less than a day after Olivari got emotional talking about how big of a fan he's been of the Warriors star.
While speaking to media members following Friday's game, he explained:
"It's crazy because I've liked him since I was in sixth grade. I don't even know what to say, man. That's my favorite player ever.
"The first thing he told me was, 'I'm a big fan of your game.' And truth be told, I'm a big fan of him. I just wanted to be like him so bad, and so just to be able to meet him, that meant the world to me."
After signing a two-way deal with the Lakers, Olivari will now have a chance to play his way into a rotational role for the Lakers. While he could wind up getting infrequent minutes for LA, he's more likely to spend time in the G League refining his game.
