Steph Curry smirks at Michael Jordan's 'Republicans buy sneakers too' quote while clearing stance on endorsing Kamala Harris
Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors cleared his stance on the upcoming elections and explained her endorsement of Kamala Harris. Curry also smirked when Michael Jordan's comments about how "Republicans buy sneakers too" quote was mentioned.
Speaking to Bloomberg's Emily Chang, the Warriors star asked why he decided to take a side publicly and endorse Harris. Chang mentioned Jordan's non-stance in politics at a critical time for the United States.
"I approach everything with decency and humanity. It's not like I'm out here casting flames at the other side. It's just, this is what I believe in, whether you agree with me or not. Like you want to be able to foster positive conversations and you want to be able to have an intelligent conversation about what's actually happening," Curry said.
The four-time NBA champion added:
"I do hate the inherent backlash you get if you just say anything. Nobody will really hear what you say or how you say it. It's just the fact that people might be against the way you think and that's how life is supposed to be. Not everybody is supposed to think the same way. But you're supposed to have a level of decency and humanity to say, I respect you. I understand where you're coming from."
Politics has been a divisive issue in the United States and people who support the other side have some nasty things to say about Steph Curry. Nevertheless, it's Curry is just supporting what he believes in even though some people might not agree with it.
With the Curry family living in California and Kamala Harris being from San Francisco, it's not surprising to see the Golden State Warriors superstar show his support for her. He has also opposed Donald Trump since his initial campaign back in 2015.
As for Michael Jordan, he made those comments during "The Last Dance" documentary to explain why he has not picked a side all these years. Jordan passed it off as a joke although it's not shocking that he shied away from it. He has stayed silent regarding politics ever since his career started.
Steph Curry makes surprise appearance at DNC to endorse Kamala Harris
Steph Curry officially endorsed Kamala Harris for the presidency at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week. Curry appeared via live stream on the fourth and final day of the rally inside the United Center, sporting his Olympic gold medal and declaring his support for Harris.
"I believe that Kamala, as president, could bring that unity back and continue to move our country forward. This is about preserving hope and belief in our country, making sure families can be taken care of during their most precious times," Curry said.
Curry was not the first Warrior to endorse Harris as president. Head coach Steve Kerr was present on the first day of the DNC and even taunted Donald Trump by using Curry's "night, night" celebration.
