Stephen Curry takes responsibility for Golden State Warriors’ loss: "Wrapped up in trying to hero ball my way to a hometown buzzer beater"
Stephen Curry reflected on the Golden State Warriors' 120-113 overtime loss against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday. Curry said he felt responsible for allowing the Hornets to send the game into overtime. He admitted that it was his fault that the game turned out the way it did.
"I'm just thinking about those last two possessions," Curry said. "Whether you just try to run a play or give me the ball. I got to do something better with the ball. I got wrapped up in trying to hero ball my way to a hometown buzzer-beater."
With a little less than a minute remaining, Steph Curry played hero ball. With the shot clock running out with nearly 30 seconds remaining and a two-point lead, Curry forced a 3-point shot and missed. Naturally, the two-time league MVP immediately wanted to redeem himself.
Curry's missed shot allowed the Charlotte Hornets to tie the game. He was then given the opportunity to make the game-winning basket. Curry forced a shot whilst in a poor position and ended up miscuing once again.
Steph Curry squandered an opportunity to make better plays and secure the Golden State Warriors' victory.
On the bright side, the Warriors' leader was humble enough to admit his mistake. This shows what kind of person Curry truly is. Charlotte Hornets defeat Golden State Warriors 120-113 in overtime on the back of PJ Washington's incredible performance
The Hornets proved that they are not afraid of the world champions. They dethroned the Golden State Warriors without their All-Star LaMelo Ball.
Charlotte took over the first quarter and maintained their lead throughout the quarter. Gordon Hayward and PJ Washington kept the offense going for the team. Hayward scored eight points while Washington put up 12 points in the quarter. The Hornets ended the quarter with a 11-point lead at 34-23.
Golden State struggled to keep up as the Hornets maintained their lead in the second quarter. Jordan Poole provided the majority of the offense in the quarter, sinking a couple of 3-pointers and getting a shot inside. Gordon Hayward and Kelly Oubre Jr., on the other hand, continued their scoring barrage as the Hornets led by 12 points at the half.
Curry suddenly erupted in the third quarter with 12 points, knocking down a couple of 3-pointers. Thanks to his efforts, the Warriors finally secured their first lead of the game. They ended the quarter with a three-point lead of 83-80. Brimming with confidence, Curry attempted to win the game for the Golden State Warriors in the final quarter, but failed.
The Hornets were able to force overtime after Curry missed two shots in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. They eventually defeated the world champions thanks to PJ Washington and Jalen McDaniels. It was an impressive victory for the Charlotte Hornets.
