Steph Curry welcomes Warriors' latest guard addition in 3-words
Over the weekend, Steph Curry saw the Golden State Warriors kick off trade season by upgrading the talent around him. After the move became official, the two-time MVP took to social media to give his reaction.
Shams Charania reported Saturday that the Warriors and Brooklyn Nets agreed on a deal for veteran guard Dennis Schroder. He is heading to Golden State in exchange for De'Anthony Melton and multiple second-round picks.
On Sunday afternoon, Steph Curry posted on Instagram about the trade. He appears excited to see Schroder join the mix on the Warriors.
"Let's get it," Curry wrote.
Before getting traded, Schroder was in the midst of a career year with the Nets. Across 23 games, he averaged 18.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.1 steals. Now, he is joining a deep Warriors team that is headlined by one of the league's top stars.
As for Golden State, this brings a reliable and productive two-way guard into the fold. In his new situation, Schroder will attempt to provide a boost to the Warriors as they attempt to stay near the top of the Western Conference standings. Currently, they sit in fifth place with a 14-10 record.
Steph Curry and Dennis Schroder could become backcourt partners on the Warriors
For most of his career, Dennis Schroder has served as a sixth man for numerous teams. As he gets ready to join another new team, there has been some insight into what his role could look like.
In his story breaking down the trade, Shams Charania reported that the Warriors envision Steph Curry and Schroder playing together in the backcourt.
"Schroder fills several needs for the Warriors, including a much-needed additional point guard who can handle the ball, potentially help the second unit get organized, make outside shots and provide coach Steve Kerr with another veteran. The Warriors envision starting lineups with Schroder and Stephen Curry in the backcourt, sources said, with Schroder able to alleviate the ball-handling responsibilities at point guard."
While Steph Curry has served as Golden State's point guard for the majority of his tenure, he can co-exist alongside another point guard. He is known for his movement without the ball, which allows another ballhandler to easily enter the fray. Curry can be utilized on the ball at times, but if they want to deploy Schroder, he can be a shooting threat coming off screens.
Along with his scoring punch, Schroder can also hold his own defensively. This makes him a good backcourt partner with Curry, as he can take on the top guard matchup. This takes a little bit off the superstar guard's plate, allowing him to allocate more energy on the offensive end.
With the array of guards on the roster now, Steve Kerr has a lot of optionality when it comes to his lineups.
