Stephen Curry is "spiteful" with a "brain like an elephant", says Jay Williams as the Memphis Grizzlies rivalry heats up

Former Chicago Bulls player Jay Williams called Stephen Curry spiteful and said that he had a brain like an elephant during a recent interview. On Wednesday night, the Golden State Warriors faced off against the Memphis Grizzlies in an intense matchup at the Chase Center.

The game ended with a 122-120 win for the Warriors, but not before a bit of drama unfolded on the court. In the final seconds of the game, with the Warriors holding a 2-point lead and only 73 seconds left, star player Stephen Curry was ejected from the game. Curry reacted badly towards Jordan Poole, who had taken and missed a shot instead of passing it to Curry on the logo.

I actually love how intentional the Grizzlies are about their mission: dethrone the Warriors as the best team in the West/NBA.

But Jay is right. Until MEM actually beats GSW in a playoff series, it's not a true rivalry. But their games can still be mad fun in the meantime!! twitter.com/GetUpESPN/stat…

In response, Curry threw his mouthguard down the court, which led to a technical foul and his ejection. After the game, Jay Williams told ESPN that he liked Curry because of his spite.

"Stephen Curry is one of the, this dude is spiteful man, that's what I love about him. Everyone thinks he's the cookie-cutter, the family guy, which he is all that. That dude has a brain like an elephant, he remembers all the things that have been said throughout the course of this rivalry. So, for him, wanting the ball at the moment goes to show you how Steph sees this series between him and the Memphis Grizzlies."

Draymond Green does not believe Grizzlies should be called Warriors’ rivals yet

The Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies have a growing rivalry in the NBA. The two teams have faced each other in the playoffs in the past two years, with the Warriors defeating the Grizzlies 4-2 in the second round of last year's playoffs en route to their 2022 NBA championship. In contrast, Memphis knocked Golden State out of the NBA play-in tournament in 2021.

However, Draymond Green, one of the most important “aging” players in the Warriors’ lineup, claimed before the game that the Grizzlies were not yet rivals:

"I don't think they've accomplished enough yet to consider it a rivalry,”

Of course, head coach Steve Kerr does not share the sentiment. Speaking before the game, Kerr had said that the 2021 play-in knockout made the rivalry happen.

“The playoff series made (the rivalry) happen. The league put us on Christmas Day together, so the league is pushing for (the rivalry) as well.”
“I don’t think the history is very deep.”

Of course, regardless of the status of the rivalry, the Warriors are happy after the win.
