Stephon Castle's mom Quannette has 4-word reaction to son's emphatic performance vs Steph Curry's Warriors
Stephon Castle has only featured in 17 games over his short NBA career, but the 20-year-old is making a name for himself. On Saturday, the young point guard put on a dazzling display to remind fans why the San Antonio Spurs used a lottery pick to bring him over to Texas.
Taking on the Western Conference's top-ranked team and former MVP Steph Curry may have intimidated some players, but Castle was ready for the challenge. Castle recorded 19 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal to help guide his team to a 104-94 win over the Golden State Warriors.
The emphatic performance from the Spurs rookie led to a concise four-word reaction on X from his mother, Quannette, who couldn't hold back her excitement.
"Winner. Stay hungry son," wrote Castle.
Victor Wembanyama will garner the bulk of the headlines after she secured 25 points and nine rebounds, but Castle's contribution late in the game cannot be overstated.
With under five minutes on the clock and the Spurs trailing by two points, the talented guard drove to the hoop and hit a difficult layup. He followed that up with a deep 3-pointer 35 seconds later to give his team a 93-90 lead.
If that weren't enough, Castle stole the ball from Steph Curry with under two minutes left to ensure the Warriors had no chance of pulling off a late-game rally.
Over 17 games this season, Stephon Castle is averaging 10.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 26.2 minutes per game.
The win over the Warriors sees the Spurs improve to a 9-8 record and move to 11th place in the Western Conference standings.
Stephon Castle was a standout player at UConn and won the 2024 National Championship with the Huskies
Stephon Castle rose to fame last season with a star-studded University of Connecticut team that produced some amazing basketball over the 2023-24 season.
Under the guidance of highly rated head coach Dan Hurley, the Huskies went on to have an incredible 37-3 record and defeat Purdue 75-60 in the NCAA championship game.
Castle was a staple in Hurley's lineup and was instrumental in guiding the school to their sixth national championship. He had 11.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.9 apg and 0.8 spg in his freshman season at the collegiate level.
Following a strong season, the guard's draft stock rose and many analysts projected that he would be selected high in the first round.
After winning just 22 games in 2023-24, the San Antonio Spurs were in desperate need of reinforcements at the guard position. The Spurs saw something special in Castle and selected him with the fourth pick in the 2024 draft.
That decision seems to have paid off for the organization, and after adding Castle and Wembanyama in the last 18 months, there is plenty to be optimistic about for Spurs fans.
