Stephon Castle sends hilarious three word message for Chris Paul, mocking veteran's age
Chris Paul took to his Instagram account and posted a photo of himself after the San Antonio Spurs' 104-94 win over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday. His rookie teammate Stephon Castle then added a comment which mocked his age.
"You nice unc," Castle wrote.
At 39 years and 203 days old, Chris Paul is the third-oldest player in the NBA. Being called 'Unc' doesn't come as a surprise to Spurs fans.
How the name came about was earlier revealed by Tre Jones. In an interview with reporters at the Spurs' training facility, shared that it was Castle who started it and it has quickly become a hit within the team.
“CP said Steph called him at first but it’s kind of trickled down to everybody now,” Jones said on Tuesday.
Paul joined the Spurs as it was seen as an opportunity for him to bring his experience and leadership to the franchise. The Spurs needed his experience, as the team is coming off a 22-60 season and finished second to last in the Western Conference standings.
This season, Paul is averaging 10.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Additionally, he has shot 46.3% from the field, 38.6% from beyond the arc and 100% from the free throw line.
Chris Paul praises rookie teammate Stephon Castle
Chris Paul has a lot of praise for Stephon Castle. On Thursday night, he gave him his flowers during an interview with reporters.
“I be talking to Steph all game long," Paul said. "It’s crazy for him to be a rookie. I’m so confident when he’s on the court. When the ball’s in his hands, I know what he’s capable of now.”
While Paul is at the tail-end of his career, he has the opportunity to guide two of the most promising young players in the league: Stephon Castle and Victor Wembanyama. His presence has lifted the Spurs as they now have a winning record of 9-8 and have moved up to 11th in the West.
