Steve Kerr gives key update on Steph Curry's minutes restriction vs Celtics
Two-time MVP Steph Curry made his much-awaited comeback against the Washington Wizards on Monday night. The Golden State Warriors point guard missed three games due to an ankle injury but looked healthy and energetic in the 24 minutes he was on the court.
The Warriors face the Boston Celtics on Wednesday in a blockbuster matchup that pits two of the teams with the best NBA records against each other. Steph Curry's health has been a major talking point leading up to the game. Coach Steve Kerr believes the 36-year-old is on the right track as he works himself back into playing condition.
Following Golden State's 125-112 win against Washington, Kerr provided an update on Curry's status.
"Probably depends on how he comes out tomorrow. But there were no problems at all tonight. Assuming he feels good tomorrow, I don't anticipate a big minutes restriction ... for Boston," said Kerr.
Led by All-Stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, the Celtics are off to a strong start. An overtime loss to the Indiana Pacers has been their only defeat of the season as they sit second in the Eastern Conference with a 7-1 record. Boston also leads the league with 123.6 points per game.
Meanwhile, despite Curry's absense, the Warriors have strung together some wins and go into the TD Garden with a 6-1 record. Kerr's team is on a four-game win streak and are tied for second-place in the Western Conference.
Steph Curry is regarded as one of this generation's great talents. The sharpshooting guard is a 10-time All-Star selection and has been named to the All-NBA First Team on four occasions. Over four games this season, he's averaging 19.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg and 6.5 apg.
Warriors guard Steph Curry is the NBA's all-time 3-point leader
Steph Curry is considered one of the game's elite shooters. The 6-foot-2 guard is the NBA's all-time leader in 3-pointers, with 3,758 over 959 career games. He holds a significant lead over the second-place Ray Allen (2973) and third-placed James Harden (2955).
Over the 2015-16 campaign, arguabaly Curry's best 3-point shooting season to date, he converted an incredible 402 3s and shot 45.4% from behind the arc. Last season, he recorded 357 3-pointers.
The Warriors added 3-point specialist Buddy Hield this offseason to complement Curry in the backcourt. With two of the game's leading shooters on the roster, Golden State will look to make a deep playoff run.
