Steve Kerr makes his feelings clear on Steph Curry hanging his head during games amid Warriors' rough patch
Steve Kerr and Steph Curry expressed their disappointment in the postgame conference after a 125-85 loss to the Boston Celtics on Monday. The 40-point drubbing was the worst home defeat in the Kerr era. During the game, clips of Curry hanging his head in frustration caused a social media stir.
A day after the blowout loss, the multi-titled coach spoke about the game and his team's performance on the Willard & Dibs podcast.
“I think the state of the team is good. We have great guys," he said. "They’re together, they’re connected. But losing sucks. If you’re Steph Curry, and you’ve won four championships and a gold medal, and you’re used to being on top, this really sucks. So I don’t think there’s anything to read into when you see Steph hanging his head other than losing is no fun.”
Steph Curry had to be exasperated, particularly with how the Celtics beat up the Warriors when he was not on the floor. The defending champs dropped a 10-1 run to end the first quarter when the two-time MVP took a breather.
The same thing happened in the second quarter when Curry sat down with 8:16 on the clock. Boston uncorked a 13-2 blast to turn the game into a rout. Without Brandin Podziemski (abdomen), Jonathan Kuminga (ankle) and Draymond Green (calf), Steve Kerr couldn’t get more out of the roster to support Curry.
Kerr desperately tried to flip the game in the third quarter, but the Boston Celtics only overwhelmed them in the period. The Cs outscored them 43-24 in the period despite Steph Curry nearly playing 11 minutes. He hung his head going to the bench as the outcome was beyond doubt after Boston led 97-63.
Steve Kerr wants Steph Curry and Co. to “flush down the toilet” the loss to the Boston Celtics
Steve Kerr answered questions from reporters after the loss to the Boston Celtics.
"We've got to flush this one down the toilet and get ready for [Sacramento]. We've been very competitive all year and our guys have fought. We've had a handful of these where we just get blown out and these are demoralizing,” he said after the beatdown at Chase Center.
Steph Curry and the Warriors have lost by at least 30 points thrice this season. Before the loss to Boston, they also went down 129-99 to the Sacramento Kings in January and 144-93 to the Memphis Grizzlies in December. Golden State has a 21-21 win-loss record heading into their rematch against the Kings on Wednesday.
Only time will tell if the Dubs manage to do as Steve Kerr asked when they visit the Kings in Sacramento.
