"Sure ain't going in the account": Bobby Portis Jr. has former NBA champ in splits as he reveals $500,000 plans
Bobby Portis Jr. and the Milwaukee Bucks have been on a roll in the last few weeks. After an early slump, they are now on the right track.
The 2021 NBA champions are tied for the best record in the Emirates NBA Cup, along with the New York Knicks. With his team's place already secured in the quarterfinals, Portis and his teammates already have a guaranteed amount in winnings.
Portis Jr. is not looking past the competition. However, he has made up his mind about where his money will go. In a conversation with thee-time NBA champion Danny Green and Lou Williams on the "Run It Back" podcast on Monday, Portis Jr. said that he wasn't going to keep the winning money in his bank account.
"Man, I was thinking about that the other day, after we beat Detroit. I’m like ‘Shoot man we’re bout a couple of wins away from getting something.' Even if you make it, you get like 150. So, even if we just get there you know. So, 500? I don’t know. I don’t want to pre-spend my money.
"Imma stay humble, man. One game at a time, but man, if I can get that 500, it for sure ain’t going in the account though."
The Milwaukee Bucks and the New York Knicks are the only two undefeated teams remaining in the Emirates NBA Cup.
Bobby Portis and the Bucks will face the Orlando Magic in the quarterfinals. Even if they lose to the Magic, according to the revised winning prizes, each player is set to pocket $51,497.
If the Bucks lose in the semifinals, each player on the team will collect $102,994. If they win the semifinals and lose in the final, they will win $205,988. Each player of the NBA Cup-winning team will receive $514,971.
Bobby Portis has been excellent for the Bucks off the bench
The Milwaukee Bucks started their season with a 2-8 record. While the team struggled, Bobby Portis Jr. remained consistent off the bench. In 22 games this campaign, he has come off the bench 21 times.
Portis Jr. is averaging 12.8 points on 46.3% shooting, including 37.0% from the 3-point line, along with 7.5 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game.
The Bucks are 12-11 and sixth in the Eastern Conference. As the season progresses, Portis Jr. is expected to remain a key cog in Doc Rivers' system and help the Bucks secure a playoff berth.
