"Taking a fat drug and getting fatter" - Shaquille O'Neal hilariously fat-shames Charles Barkley with Evander Holyfield present
On the Wednesday episode of "The Big Podcast with Shaq," former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal hilariously fat-shamed his friend Charles Barkley. In a clip posted on Thursday, O'Neal welcomed his guest, boxing legend Evander Holyfield, and complimented him for his fitness despite being retired for quite some time.
During the episode, O'Neal praised Holyfield's physical looks. He asked what vitamins he uses to maintain his shape. Before the 62-year-old fighter could reply, the former LA Lakers star had something to say about his TNT co-host.
“Can I get a list of the vitamins that you take?” O’Neal said. “Because you’re looking beautiful right now. I don’t want to end up looking like your good friend Charles Barkley.
“Barkley’s the only guy that’s taking a fat drug and getting fatter.”
In June 2023, Barkley said he took Mounjaro, an "injectable medicine for adults with type 2 diabetes," according to lily.com. The former Phoenix Suns star used it for six months and said he lost 60 pounds.
According to healthline.com, Barkley isn't the only known personality to use the drug. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, Inc., said he used the drug for weight loss.
Shaquille O'Neal says centers in the NBA and heavyweights in boxing have changed
When Shaquille O'Neal was in the league, he lived in the paint. O'Neal lived in an era when big men's supremacy near the basket made them untouchable. Holyfield also entered the boxing world at a time when heavyweight boxers were becoming more popular.
But in both sectors of their sports, things have altered, and O'Neal has witnessed a shift.
“I definitely see it,” O’Neal said. “There’s no more dominant big man. It’s like stretch fives. I thought Joel Embiid was going to be that guy, but I don’t think he likes the physicality for a whole season.
“Jokic is a guy that can go in and out. Wembanyama is a guy that can go in and out. Besides that, everybody’s just doing the same thing. Like in boxing, you got a hundred boxers, everybody’s doing something different.”
According to O'Neal, "everybody just does the same thing," which makes the sport boring. He also said the similarity in how the game has been played is why the ratings have been low.
Holyfield added that amateur boxing made fighters great and the sport famous. However, he said the program isn't promoted the way it used to be.
