"That's a good dog name" - Travis Kelce & Jason Kelce endorse Jalen Brunson's name taking over as top pet name in sports
Since arriving in New York, Jalen Brunson has been skyrocketing towards "household name" status. His name, in fact, has gained prominence among a certain type of audience, outperforming two NFL stars in the process.
During the Dec. 18 episode of the "New Heights With Jason & Travis Kelce" podcast, Brunson's name came to the Kelce brothers' attention when a caller brought up an interesting stat:
The caller asked the Kelce brothers how they felt after being "dethroned" as the number one trending pet name based on athletes. Apparently, Kelce was only #2 on Rover's 2024 Most Popular Dog Names in the USA. And #1? None other than Jalen Brunson.
Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, said in reply:
"Brunson? That's a good dog name."
The conversation then turned to Jason's naming preferences. The former Philadelphia Eagles center, joked about preferring human names for dogs and dog names for humans.
Jalen Brunson had a famous exchange with Jason Kelce about NBA and NFL athletes
Not too long ago, Brunson crossed paths with Jason Kelce, who has transitioned into a broadcasting career after hanging up his Eagles jersey. Brunson is notably a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.
During an ESPN broadcast in mid-September, Brunson joined the panel to engage in some sports banter. Kelce brought up a favorite topic of discussion among sports fans. Would it be easier for an NBA player to play in the NFL or vice versa?
The Knicks' starting point guard replied:
"I would say it's easier for an NBA guy to play in the NFL. I'm not saying it's easy, it's easier. Like if you were guarding the pick and roll..."
Kelce had a ready response for this tactical situation.
"Hey, I got this. I'm going right through the pick!" This response drew laughter from the entire broadcast panel.
Setting the jokes aside, Brunson and Kelce clarified that there was mutual respect for what NBA and NFL competitors do in their respective fields. In a show of respect, Kelce made sure to commend the tremendous athleticism displayed by Brunson and his fellow NBA stars.
