"I can separate dad from teammate": LeBron James talks about how playing with son Bronny James would be
In a recent interview with anchor Craig Melvin on the "Today" show, LeBron James made it clear that there will be no preferential treatment for his eldest son, Bronny James, as they share the court as fellow Laker teammates next season.
"It’s going to work just like any one other of my teammates," James said. "I’m going to hold him accountable, and he should hold me accountable when I do things not right. I can separate dad from teammate. And, I think, as he continues to grow, and as he continues to learn, I hope he’s able to separate son from teammate, as well."
James further elaborated that both of them will be focused on playing the game and that LeBron wants Bronny to develop as a player without any shortcuts.
"But at the end of the day, it won’t be no shortcuts, that’s for sure," James said. "I don’t hold anybody to shortcut standard when it comes to the game of basketball and somebody being around me on a day-to-day basis."
The LA Lakers drafted Bronny James with their 55th pick in the 2024 NBA draft and inked a four-year, $7.9 million deal with the former USC guard. However, Bronny will likely play the majority of the 2024-25 season with the Lakers' G League squad after sharing the court with his dad in the opening week of the regular season.
