"The expectations are clear": JJ Redick gets real on Lakers objective of coaching staff ahead of upcoming season
Newly-minted Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick outlined the objectives of his coaching staff. The team formally announced that the assistant coaches working with the former sharpshooter on the bench will be Nate McMillan, Scott Brooks, Bob Beyer, Greg St. Jean, Lindsey Harding and Beau Levesque. Additionally, the team also hired Michael Wexler as their head video coordinator.
Per Lakers reporter Ryan Ward, Redick spoke about the thought process behind the hires and the expectations from the side ahead of the next season:
"Through an intentional and thorough process, we've brought together an experienced, diverse and dedicated coaching staff," Redick said. "Our goal from day one is to foster a high-performing environment of player development and team alignment through relentless work, daily collaboration and innovation. Players and staff are here to enjoy the pursuit of excellence every time they step on the court.
"The expectations are clear, and my staff and I are committed to doing everything necessary to ensure success at the highest level," he added.
The Lakers are yet to make substantial moves on the trade front, but the coaching staff looks equipped as they come with experience and potential. The franchise has taken a punt with a first-time head coach but remains optimistic about how LA will fare this season while keeping an eye out for the future.
JJ Redick believes his experience as a player and podcaster will help in coaching the Lakers
When announced officially as the LA Lakers coach for the 2024-25 season, JJ Redick minced no words when he acknowledged that he had no coaching experience before the role:
“I have zero coaching experience in the NBA, but I would argue that I’m very experienced. It started 22 years ago when I went to Duke and I got to play for Coach K [Mike Krzyzewski] for four years, spent 15 years as a [NBA] player."
Redick has already made his plans clear for the Lakers stars. He had initially said that he wanted LeBron James to attempt more 3-pointers, while Anthony Davis would be the "hub" of the LA offense. He's also reportedly had initial conversations with young guards Austin Reaves and Max Christie, while also having productive talks with his young rookies Bronny James Jr. and Dalton Knecht.
The Lakers are most likely to run it back with their old roster under a new coach. It will be interesting to see how the season pans out for both JJ Redick and the players.
