"They just keep giving him the same shoe" — Sneakerheads harshly critique Adidas over Donovan Mitchell's latest signature kicks

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell recently saw the release of his sixth signature shoes with Adidas. Named the D.O.N. Issue #6 by the global sneaker giants, the shoes feature a mesh upper with wavy TPU linework and boast a Lightstrike Pro cushioning sole.

The lightweight shoes have been modelled around the Cavaliers superstar’s game and allow for increased agility and bounce, and they will be available in four colors. The retail release of the sneakers will be on July 1, with the cost set to be exactly $120.

While the colorful options and the extent of features further add to the sneaker’s charm, fans on Instagram do not seem impressed and claim the D.O.N. #6 is too similar to the previous iterations of Mitchell’s sneaker line.

One user claimed that Adidas has made no changes, among a plethora of NBA fans who were seemingly not impressed with D.O.N. #6.

Furthermore, fans complained about how the shoe is also similar to a few other releases for other NBA stars, with one particular user calling them "Diet Jordan 36":

Fans levelled all sorts of criticism at the shoe — mainly for its look rather than the features. Most commenters are of the opinion that Adidas has not done enough to set the D.O.N. #6 apart from other past releases.

Donovan Mitchell enters the offseason fraught with uncertainty about future

The Cleveland Cavaliers enter the offseason after a disappointing playoffs that saw them knocked out by the Boston Celtics in the second round. While Mitchell ended the season with injury struggles, he was near-flawless throughout the season. But his team suffered due to a lack of secondary scoring options.

While Darius Garland was brought in to solve the problem, the Cavaliers heavily relied on their star man to win them games during the season. That did not turn out well in the playoffs. Now, with Mitchell just one year away from free agency, the Cavaliers have some big decisions to make.

A mammoth contract for their star man is one option. The other, however, is a potential rebuild, with several teams expected to line up for Donovan Mitchell’s signature in the offseason. That chiefly includes the LA Lakers, the Phoenix Suns and the New York Knicks. As the player looks forward to the retail release of his new shoes, he has a lot to consider for his future on the court.
