"They want to breakup with us" - Charles Barkley quips about Inside the NBA's unsuccessful media rights bid
Hall of Famer Charles Barkley is one of the many people caught in the crossfire of the NBA's new media rights deal. As he gets ready to enter what could be his final season on TV, the legendary big man shared his thoughts on the entire situation.
This week, Barkley sat down with Paul George on his "Podcast P" show to discuss a range of topics. Among the things brought up was TNT's involvement in the league's new media rights deal. Despite reportedly matching Amazon's bid, the NBA has opted to part ways with its longtime TV partner.
While talking with George, Charles Barkley opened up on his emotional state as he gets ready for what is likely his final year with TNT.
"It's been really depressing for me because we kind of knew we were gonna lose the thing," Barkley said. "It was one of the worst kept secrets in the history of civilization."
"It just really sucks man. I can't believe we screwed it up. So next year is going to be a bittersweet year."
Barkley quickly transitioned into a role on television after enjoying a successful 16-year career in the NBA. He's been part of "Inside The NBA" since 2000, the same year he retired as a player.

Charles Barkley could see expanded role following TNT losing NBA media rights
With TNT not being included in the NBA media rights deal, change is on the horizon for Charles Barkley and the rest of the cast. Even though the network won't have professional basketball anymore, they might try to retain the Hall of Fame forward in a new role.
While discussing the network's future, media insider John Ourand cited that Warner Bros views Barkley as a star on TV. With that in mind, they might look to hold on to him and have him cover things outside of basketball.
“There are several options that are out there, including staying with Warner Bros. Discovery,” Ourand said. "He’s great on television. And they have other sports that are there.
"They have March Madness, Barkley has been part of their hockey coverage here and there, and they want to just do more in sports, and he could expand from just doing NBA to being a sports commentator perhaps.”
Earlier this year, Charles Barkley attempted to branch out beyond being just a basketball commentator. He had a show with Gale King on CNN, but it ended up being canceled after just 19 total episodes.
Seeing that he is a vibrant personality that people love seeing on TV, Barkley is sure to have numerous opportunities to choose from next year.
