"This is almost a Kobe-Shaq type of thing" - Robert Horry shares his thoughts on Anthony Davis' dominant performances
Anthony Davis has been playing like Shaquille O'Neal over the last few games for the Los Angeles Lakers. At least, that is what former Lakers player Roberty Horry believes. Appearing on the Spectrum SportsNet show, Horry was asked if Davis could keep up his dominant form once LeBron James returns from injury. Horry replied:
"You always want to compare former teams. If you think about it, this is almost like a Kobe [Bryant]-Shaq type of thing. You have a guy who can dominate the perimeter like LeBron, but you have a guy who can dominate the paint like AD [Anthony Davis] and Shaq.
"If AD is going to go in that post and just look at LeBron and yell at him, like Shaq used to do Kobe, 'Give me the rock,' give him the rock because you have to take advantage of mismatches.
"Nine times out of 10, when AD is on the floor, he has the advantage, he has the mismatches. You have to feed the beast and right now AD is that beast in the paint."
Robert Horry credits Anthony Davis and LA Lakers' defense for three-game win streak
Anthony Davis has been a monster for the LA Lakers over their last three games. He is averaging 35.0 ppg and 17.3 rpg while shooting 61.7% from the field in this three-game span that the Lakers have won. Elaborating on the factors responsible for the team's winning run, Robert Horry said:
"Two things come to mind. AD dominating the paint and their defense. Their defense has been stellar. Everybody is rotating defensively. Everybody is putting pressure on the ball. Every time a shot is taken, they're contesting shots.
"We always talk about stats. When you contest the shot, most of the time you’re going to miss that shot. So, I'm loving the way they're playing the defense.
"Overall, AD has taken over. I'm not going to talk about the points. It's the rebounds. He's almost averaging 20 rebounds. I know 18 is a lot less than 20, but in my eyes, he's averaging 20."
One big challenge now for Anthony Davis and the Lakers is that they have to register a road win. The Lakers are 0-5 in games played away from Crypto.com Arena. They are one of only two teams along with the Detroit Pistons yet to win a game away from their home floor.
The Lakers will get a chance to correct that dubious record over their next few games as they play in Phoenix on Tuesday night, after which they travel to San Antonio to play back-to-back games against the Spurs on Friday and Saturday.
Horry is counting on Davis playing a big part in helping the Lakers get a road victory. He remarked:
"They have a formula. And that formula is to go to AD and play good defense and usually when you can get points in the paint, which is easy buckets. Basketball is about getting easy buckets. That is a formula to win."
