"This is crazy lol" "YO WE F***KING LIT": Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart and Jalen Bruson react to wild Knicks trade
Mikal Bridges shared his first reaction after being traded to the New York Knicks in a heavy draft capital trade by the New York Nets. Also responding to the news on social media were his former Villanova teammates, Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson as their reunion is now complete. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news of the massive trade as he laid out the details of the trade left fans online in an uproar.
Bridges took to X/Twitter to share his thoughts:
"This is crazy lol."
Hart wasn't far away, as he punched out an NSFW tweet in response to the news:
"YO WE F****** LIT."
Brunson had a more in-awe reaction :
"Omg."
While Bridges heads to the Knicks, the Nets will receive a string of draft picks and Bojan Bogdanovic. Per Wojnarowski's report, Brooklyn will now access a first-round pick in 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031. They also get a protected FRP from the Milwaukee Bucks, a second-round 2025 pick and a protected 2028 pick swap.
Bridges averaged 19.6 points and 4.5 rebounds last year as the Nets failed to make the playoffs in his first full season with the team. Meanwhile, the New York Knicks made the playoffs last season and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals. They lost 4-3 to the Indiana Pacers in the end.
Mikal Bridges had earlier expressed disappointment after a rough Nets season
Leading up to the blockbuster trade, Bridges had expressed his disappointment that he and the Nets had hit an early offseason. They finished 11th in the regular season with a dismal 32-50 record. Per the New York Post, Bridges said:
“It was really tough just personally. I got a couple gray hairs. Wanting to win and compete and being frustrated on a lot of things. Being frustrated at myself. You just gotta go through it sometimes. You have expectations, you have goals and sometimes you don’t reach those goals. Life has a funny way of humbling you. But it’s always for the greater good.”
Mikal Bridges now has the necessary firepower in Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart as a young Knicks core comprising fellow Villanova teammate Donte DiVincenzo in the mix is now a force to reckon with. Supposing the Knicks manage to give wing specialist OG Anunoby the kind of contract he expects in free agency, then they could elevate themselves to bonafide title contenders.
