"This is lame" - Donovan Mitchell calls out former Jets linebacker for mocking Trevon Diggs' season-ending ACL injury
Donovan Mitchell has called out former New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott for his recent comments on ESPN's First Take. After Dallas Cowboy's player Trevon Diggs went down with a season-ending ACL injury, former NFL player Bart Scott struck a nerve with many people. As he explained on-air regarding Diggs injury, something bad always happens to the Cowboys.
Immediately, Stephen A. Smith chimed in, shutting down the talk and saying that he wouldn't apply the statement in a moment like this where a player was seriously hurt. Despite this, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell believes that the comments from Bart Scott were out of line.
Mitchell took to Twitter to take a shot at Scott, questioning how as a former NFL player, the TV personality can make such comments about an injury. At the time of publication, the Tweet from Donovan Mitchell had already been viewed over 129,000 times.
Scott had stated:
"This is a major major blow for Dallas, and like Stephen A. always says, just wait, something bad always happens."
Mitchell responded via Twitter, writing:
"This is lame... and as a former player this makes it 10x worse."
Looking at Donovan Mitchell's love of the NFL
Over the years, Donovan Mitchell has shown NBA fans that he's a big NFL football fan as well. Back in 2021, he took to Twitter to praise Trevon Diggs for his performance during a December 2nd matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints.
In the game, Trevon Diggs recorded four tackles and one interception, leading fans to suspect that Mitchell likely had him on his fantasy team. Additionally, some NBA fans may be familiar with the fact that Donovan Mitchell and Lamar Jackson became friends back in 2015 when the pair both began University of Louisville.
Although they played different sports, the two players became good friends, even holding a friendly dunk contest which left the future NFL quarterback stunned. He explained to ESPN in an interview:
"I was doing little basic dunks. ... If we were talking about [NBA] 2K dunk comparisons, mine would be like generic, and his would be some crazy s--- like Vince Carter or something."
Over the years, the two men have continued to develop their friendship, with Mitchell notably even wearing Lamar Jackson's jersey during NBA game arrival shots. As both men look to win championships in their respective sports, they have continued to support each other.
Donovan Mitchell stated in the previously mentioned ESPN interview:
"It's constant support and love for each other."
With Jackson's NFL season underway, and Mitchell and the Cavaliers eager to make a statement in the Eastern Conference, the two will rely on their mutual support. Whether this season sees either man capture a title, only time will tell.
