“Threw up in my mouth”- LA Clippers fans in shambles as team reportedly covets 39 and 38-year old yesteryear All-Stars in FA
LA Clippers fans can't believe the news of the team trying to acquire two veteran players in the twilight of their careers. According to Tomer Azarly, the NBA writer for the Clippers, the team is interested in Kyle Lowry and Chris Paul for the next season.
The LA Clippers have had a rough stretch in the last three seasons. After missing a playoff and exiting the first round in the last two seasons, there was hope that the Clips would try to revamp going into the next season.
The revamping would have meant bringing in great role players around Paul George, Kawhi Leonard and James Harden.
The news of the team being interested in two vets didn’t sit well among fans. While some said Lowry and Paul were washed, some want the front office to be fired.
"As a diehard Clippers fan, I just threw up in my mouth a little," a fan said.
"Fire the whole front office lml," another fan wrote.
"NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. They’re both washed and won’t bring anything to the table worth having," wrote another fan.
Some said that while the team is already losing its fanbase, a trade like this is only going to push more die-hard fans away.
"I was so excited for Intuit dome and have been planning an 8000 mile haul across the pacific just to go to the new arena. Keep making me not want to Clippers," a fan wrote.
"They really trying to push away fans," another fan wrote.
Alluding to both Lowry and CP3 being old and injury-prone, some sarcastically commented that the signing makes sense for the Clippers, given that the star players get injured in the playoffs.
"Sounds about right for the clippers another often injured player or one that disappears in the playoffs. Lol," a fan wrote.
However, there were some who, although uncomfortable with the Lowry trade, gave the green signal to at least the CP3 trade.
"Cp for a backup role only but no to Kyle Lowry. I think CP on our bench would help everyone especially bones," a fan wrote.
Can Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry trade work for the Clippers?
Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry just turned 39 and 38 and they are at the end of their careers. Considering that the Clippers are still looking to get their hands on the first championship, the trade for both veteran players may not be the best decision right now.
Last season, the Clippers were 16th in defensive ratings, and that was with a defensive-minded coach. Kawhi Leonard played 68 games and was injured in the first round. James Harden may be an excellent playmaker, but he is a liability on defense and has not been himself offensively.
Keeping in mind that the team needs a few players with defensive intensity, CP3 and Lowry do not fit the demand. Moreover, there is no doubt that Chris Paul is an all-time point guard, but with Harden already on the roster, pursuing two-point guards may not be the team's requirement.
The team already has a great offense and if there is anything extra they need to become a legitimate contender, it is length and quick legs. Bringing in Paul and Lowry will only make them slow and a bad defensive team.
