Trae Young's father claims NBA's leaked schedule is like a 'script' and playoff teams need to win more before February
On Thursday, Trae Young's father took aim at the NBA's scheduling in a post on social media after the league revealed the 2024-25 regular season schedule. While the NBA Cup schedule had been released earlier in the week, the full slate of games around the league was released on Thursday, drawing quite a bit of attention from the NBA community.
From the Group Play Round games of the second-ever NBA In-Season Tournament to marquee matchups, and of course, Christmas Day games, this year's NBA schedule is packed with fast-paced, high-flying action from October to April.
In the case of the Atlanta Hawks, the team will begin its season on Oct. 23, when Trae Young and Co. face off with the Brooklyn Nets, who parted ways with Mikal Bridges this summer.
After looking over the schedule that was sent to him, Young's father, Ray Young, called out the league's scheduling. As he alleged, the league is trying to make sure teams who qualified for the playoffs last year stack up a lot of wins before the All-Star break.
In a post on X/Twitter, he said:
"Just got this @NBA schedule. Yep I know exactly how this script is gonna go this year. Trying to make sure playoff teams from last year gonna be stacking up a lot of wins before All Star break"
Looking at Trae Young and Atlanta Hawks' schedule for 2024-25 NBA season
As previously mentioned, Young and the Hawks' season will tip off on Oct. 23 with a home game against the Nets.
Things heat up for the team in November, when they play Dejounte Murray and the New Orleans Pelicans on Nov. 3 in a highly anticipated game that will mark the first meeting between the two teams since Murray parted ways with the Hawks this summer.
Just a few days later, they will compete against the New York Knicks at home on Nov. 6 in another game that seems poised to produce fireworks.
In the past, Young has had quite a bit of beef with the Knicks, and their fans, who infamously took to the street to chant "f**k Trae Young" after the young guard took a bow at the Madison Square Garden in the midst of a heated 2021 playoff series.
The game will mark the first of four meetings between the two teams during the regular season, with games scheduled for Jan. 20, Feb. 12 and Apr. 5.
Just three days after the Hawks' first meeting with the Knicks on Nov. 6, the team will then play in another highly-anticipated rematch against the Chicago Bulls, who eliminated Atlanta from the NBA Play-In tournament last year.
With their sights set on a return to the postseason, this year is sure to be a big one for Atlanta.
